About Shakarim

Shakarim is a motivated, funny, and positive student from Kazakhstan. His friends call him “Shaq” for short and because of his passion for basketball. When he’s not on the court, Shakarim loves spending time with friends, whether they’re hanging out, going to the movies, or just enjoying each other’s company. “For me, it’s more about who I’m with than where we are,” he says, showing his appreciation for connection and camaraderie.

From a young age, Shakarim’s love for American cartoons and TV shows sparked his dream of exploring life in the U.S. Now, he’s ready to make that dream come true as part of an American host family. “By being part of your family, I'll have the chance to learn firsthand about America, something I'll be truly grateful for,” he says.

One of Shakarim’s favorite American traditions is Halloween, a holiday that isn’t widely celebrated in Kazakhstan but one he and his sister love to embrace. He’s excited to experience it in the U.S. and looks forward to sharing his own culture and traditions with his host family and new friends.

Shakarim’s enthusiasm, humor, and open-minded approach to life make him a joy to be around. He’s eager to teach his American friends about Kazakhstan while learning all about the traditions, culture, and everyday life of his host family.
